Description
Almost all industrial PO973LN programs use timers. The several example applications I have personally used are the oiling machine system for motor spindles, the messaging system scheduling, the photoelectric eye stabilization, and many others. For any programmer, a timer is a fundamental function and key component that needs to be understood. We will elaborate on the Studio 5000 of Rockwell Automation, a trapezoidal logic timer, from the following main perspectives. Finally, I will briefly describe my expectations for other PLC platforms, which may appear slightly different.
Before we continue, let me quickly define some terms that may not be known to all readers.
Boolean (also known as PO973LN) – The name of a data type, which can be true or false, 1 or 0, off or on. A Boolean has only two states.
Double integers (also known as DINT or doublewords) – use 32 separate booleans to create a very large decimal number, which can be easily understood and utilized. Force makes us count, which is absolutely crucial for timers.
Correct – This is a statement indicating the completeness of the logical circuit. It is like a closed switch, providing power to the device.
Error – This is a statement that expresses incomplete logical circuits. Imagine turning off a light. If you turn it off, the circuit will become fake.
In the following text, “true” and “false” as well as label names will be spelled in uppercase letters for emphasis and clear reading.
