The goal of network redundancy is to prevent the loss of connection with other systems on the network. Whether this is important to you depends on the type of system you are running. The BRC410 independent HMI can communicate with a single PLC directly connected to the PLC, otherwise it can only serve as a “happy to have” function and may not require redundancy.

Redundancy of Control Network systems with multiple operator stations, multiple PLCs connected via Ethernet, PLCs connected via Ethernet to drives, multiple servers, or inter system communication may have severe redundancy requirements. If losing network connectivity means your processes may stop, get out of control, and the associated costs are unacceptable, then you will have a redundant network.

This may involve redundant network cabling, switches, possible ring networks, and any other network infrastructure, BRC410 to ensure that network traffic will always function even if a part of the network fails. The goal is to provide redundant communication paths.

At the PC or server level, a redundant network card (NIC) may be required in the computer. In this way, if the main network card fails, your network traffic can be used with a backup network card.
