The SPI interface may be the preferred interface for all displays, except for the smallest size display. Each 2C MAX6953 can be set to a 16 I2c address. INICT13A means that each monochromatic sub block containing 16 MAX6953s must be on its own I2 bus to avoid addressing conflicts. A medium-sized graphics display, such as 224 x 80 pixels, will use 6 monochrome sub blocks and require 12 processor I/O cables to handle 6 I2 buses. If SPI MAX6952s uses daisy chain (cascaded SPI interface), the same panel can be driven by 2 processor I/O cables.

Using MAX6952s, the maximum display size of the fully animated dual color panel is 2100 sub blocks. A practical design example may have a processor that can allocate a quarter of its time to interfaces and run at a speed of 10 megabits per second (via RS-485 link). Therefore, for this application, the display size limit of INICT13A is reduced to (2100 x 10/26 x 1/4)=200 sub blocks. Therefore, the maximum dual color panel that can be driven is 10 sub blocks multiplied by 20 sub blocks, possibly arranged as 1120 x 400 dual color pixels. It can drive a monochrome panel twice the size.
